Samsung Takes on Surface With $629 Galaxy Book

At MWC 2017 back in February, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Book which is basically a 2-in-1 device that runs on Microsoft's Windows 10 platform. The 12-inch Book model with integrated LTE capabilities will be available for purchase through Verizon Wireless for $1,299 starting April 21, while preorders of the WiFi versions of the 12-inch and 10-inch Book devices will begin April 21 at and select retailers, including Best Buy. Both come with 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, Global Positioning System support, a microSD card reader, various sensors (accelerometer, hall, and light), and of course Windows 10. The device transforms from a notebook into a tablet and comes with the S Pen and Keyboard Case.

With the Samsung Flow feature, users can connect their Galaxy smartphones with the Galaxy book wirelessly to transfer data and sync documents and do other things.

The Book 12 includes fast charging of its 39.04-watt rechargeable battery and expected battery life of up to 11 hours on a charge.

For full PC power and performance, the 12-inch features 7th Generation Intel Core i5 processor, Dual Core 3.1 GHz while the 10.6-inch has the Intel Core m3 processor, Dual Core 2.6GHz.

In addition to the above options, Samsung has also announced a fourth version branded the Galaxy Book 12. The 12-inch's vibrant Super AMOLED display and 10.6-inch's TFT screen both support Full HD viewing on-screen, as well as an external 4K video output for an optimal viewing experience. These are both Wi-Fi-only tablets, with an LTE version of the Galaxy Book 12 being priced at $1,299.99. The standard model only comes in silver, but Best Buy is exclusively offering a black version in addition to the silver.

The Galaxy S7 comes equipped with a 5.1-inch QHD display and it sports 32GB of internal storage space, which is paired with 4GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. For business users the 12-inch model can be shipped with Windows 10 Pro and LTE built-in.
