James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the follow-up to the 2014 box office smash that sent waves across the world when it grossed more than $777.3 million globally, opened in the US this weekend with a galactic $145 million return, making it not only the top movie in the country, but also Marvel's fifteenth straight No. 1 opening domestically, according to CNN Money.

Also, with characters Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Yondu (Michael Rooker), and, of course Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) the second film too had evolved nicely from the hugely successful 2014 original.
