It is the sixth-most educated district in the country and chock full of moderate, suburban Republicans.
Ossoff obtained the most amount of votes during the special election held in April, but failed to win the election by majority, forcing a runoff against Handel.
Democrats seethed, second-guessed and sought to regroup Wednesday after a disappointing special election defeat in Georgia, with the party's campaign chief in the House of Representatives outlining alternative paths to taking power, and some lawmakers questioning anew the leadership and political strategy of Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic minority leader.
"Nothing preps you for next election more than concluding your team is too virtuous to win & voters are too evil or dumb to see the truth", tweeted Jonah Goldberg, senior editor at National Review. The district has been a Democratic graveyard since the Carter administration. The daughter and sister of former Baltimore mayors, she rose quickly through Democratic ranks in the 1980s as California party chairman, then finance chair for the party's Senate campaign committee.
Whit Ayres, a Republican consultant and Handel strategist, underscored her success in turning the contest into a normal partisan choice.
Ossoff railed against the "role of money in politics" in an interview with NPR on Tuesday, calling it a "problem".
USA dollar hits June highs after data backs continued Fed tightening
Germany's final May inflation stats met expectations, dropping from 0% to -0.2% month-on-month and drop 2% to 1.5% year-on-year. The dollar jumped 1.2% against the Japanese yen to ¥110.93 and the euro fell 0.7% against the dollar to $1.1146.
"Clearly Karen Handel defended us on [healthcare] and ran on 'We need to get this stuff done".
Notice those words: "relentlessly localized". Is Handel a Trump surrogate or a Never Trumper? "Karen was able to pull Republicans back together", said Jim Phillips, a 69-year-old retiree from Marietta who has volunteered on several Handel campaigns.
On Wednesday, Trump told the Iowa crowd that the southern border wall he promised to build - and make Mexico pay for - could feature solar panels.
However, Fallon did see a lost opportunity.
Anti-Ossoff ads featured Pelosi, with some warning voters Ossoff would vote with her on many issues, despite his moderate tone on the campaign trail. As it turned out, Mr. Parnell did as well as Mr. Ossoff.
BENNETT: A handful of Democrats pinned the party's loss in Georgia on House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. Just this past weekend, the New York Times declared it would be a "high-stakes referendum on Trump", with the "highest" stakes for Republicans. "Incredible candidates are stepping up to run across the largest battlefield in a decade, and frankly, that isn't determined at all by what happens in deep-red special elections".
Pelosi's office claims even loftier triumphs, saying she's raised more than $500 million for Democrats since entering the party leadership in the early 2000s, including $141.5 million in the 2015-2016 cycle. Would the existence of such a message have won Ossoff this race?
