Forget The Crown Vic: Ford Launches F-150 Police Responder

Saturday, 22 Jul, 2017

Ford is revealing the industry's first pursuit-rated pickup, the 2018 F-150 Police Responder, giving law enforcement agencies a more versatile and capable patrol vehicle.

The all-new F-150 Police Responder is based on Ford's heavy-duty F-150 FX4 pick-up and now available to United States law enforcement agencies in the market for a more versatile and capable patrol vehicle.

Because selling 820,000 trucks in a year just isn't enough, Ford will now offer its beloved F-Series truck as a purpose-built police vehicle.

"Additional F-150 Police Responder performance enhancements include a police-calibrated brake system with upgraded calipers and pad friction material, upgraded front-stabilizer bar for improved braking and handling, and 18" alloy wheels with all-terrain tires. Based on the "regular" FX4 model, the police-spec F-150 is powered by Ford's 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, putting out 375 horsepower and 470 lb. -ft. of torque. A police version of its Explorer SUV - the Interceptor SUV - is a popular option for police departments, and it also carries a pursuit rating. Underbody skid plates protect the truck from curbs and rough terrain. Ford fits a class IV hitch to the back, for 7,000 pounds of towing ability.

The truck can hit speeds of 100 miles per hour and features a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine and Ford SelectShift 10-speed transmission.

Minneapolis shooting victim's fiance says 'desperate for information'
His partner, who did not fire any shots , was identified to the Star Tribune as officer Matthew Harrity. Ms Damond, nee Justine Ruszczyk, taught meditation classes at the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community.

The F-150 Police Responder includes a number of interior features, including a column shifter, heavy-duty cloth front seats with slim bolsters and anti-stab plates, vinyl rear seating and heavy-duty vinyl flooring. The floors are heavy-duty vinyl too, for easy cleaning.

Crooks beware: Ford has revealed its first "pursuit-rated" pick-up and it could be just the thing for patrolling U.S. president Donald Trump's new Mexican border wall.

Engineered for on- and off-road terrain, the Responder will be suitable for use in rural environments such as those patrolled by sheriff departments, border patrol or fish and game authorities.

In contrast the F-150 Police Responder is unlikely to be so frugal.
