Ezekiel Elliott suspended for six games

Sunday, 13 Aug, 2017

In September, the Columbus City attorney's office in OH announced that Elliott wouldn't be charged because of conflicting and inconsistent information.

Elliott is likely to appeal, but his best case scenario would be the suspension dropping to four games. Depending on a player's circumstances, suspensions can be made longer or shorter at the whim of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who has the final say on all league disciplinary factors. Any ruling would be considered binding.

The running back remains eligible to participate in preseason practices and games, but he'll be off the roster from September 2 through October 22, if the suspension remains in place.

Last season, the 22 year old has dominated the National Football League with 1631 yards on the ground, adding 15 touchdowns.

His players believe the same and have given no consideration to playing any games without Elliott in 2017.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the suspension.

Elliott was accused by a woman, who identified herself as his former girlfriend, who said she had been assaulted on five separate occasions in July 2016 by the first-round pick from Ohio State. For each the league said medical experts reviewed photographs and found the injuries were "recent and consistent" with the victim's description of the incident. He has three days to appeal, and if he fails to do so, his suspension will begin once the preseason ends.

"Legal authorities concluded that Elliott's accuser was not credible and rejected charging him". Elliott was allegedly involved in a fight at a bar in July.

Over the course of the past year, the league conducted an extensive investigation.

Elliott was seen in a legal marijuana shop during the preseason in Seattle a year ago and was caught on video pulling down a woman's shirt during a St. Patrick's Day parade in Dallas this past spring.
