She says once people realized gunshots were erupting, they started running in a panic.

A motive has not been determined for the Thursday shooting.

"I normally can handle (myself) well in these situations, but I was pretty sure I had just lost my life", Hatter said.

Police are now searching for several suspects and will stay at the park this evening to investigate, KPIX reported.

Gunmen storm into DP Ruto's Sugoi home
The incident comes some 10 days before Kenya's presidential, legislative and regional county representative elections on August 8. An unknown number of gunmen have attacked the rural home of Deputy President William Ruto in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County.

Antonia Juhasz told the San Francisco Chronicle that the park was "packed with kids, packed with people" at the time of the shooting.

She says it was a terrifying moment because people were not reacting, possibly thinking the blasts were fireworks.

Juhasz said the police responded quickly to the incident.

Jason Lopezjones, a resident of the neighborhood, said that he heard at least six gunshots.

"I felt a fragment hit my knee and I took off running.Guy behind me got in the head, which I just heard might be someone I know. And the one on the right got hit in the back of the leg".

"We need more police presence in the park because there are all sorts of shady characters and non-park-like activity when you think of a family park", Lopezjones added. Police say the shooting does not appear to be random.
