One inmate still on loose after 12 escape Alabama county jail

Tuesday, 01 Aug, 2017

Eleven have been captured, one remains at large. He was in jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, authorities said.

"It may sound insane, but these people are insane like a fox", Walker County Sheriff James Underwood said at a news conference in Jasper.

Six of the inmates were recaptured, but the other six were still on the loose, the sheriff's office said.

The inmates, between 18 and 30 and facing charges ranging from attempted murder to disorderly conduct, used blankets to climb over a razor-wire fence encircling the Walker County Jail.

News 5 is following this breaking news with our sister station in Birmingham. You have to stay on your toes. And they scheme all the time to con us and our employees here at the jail. '(The guard is) a young guy, he hasn't been there that long. Underwood, who was then at a sheriff's conference in Gulf Shores Sunday night, said this number of workers on duty was normal. This is one time we slipped up. I'm not going to make excuses.

Lucky Whitehead's week of drama wasn't worth keeping him for the Cowboys
Dallas moved quickly in letting Whitehead go after two of its players had been arrested during the recent offseason. Although Whitehead understandably doesn't like the way his parting happened, the Cowboys probably did him a favor.

On Sunday at 6:20pm, the inmates smeared the peanut butter on numbers that identified an outside door, which, in turn, led the guard to open the wrong door while he was attempting to let them back into their cells. The Walker County Sheriff's Office has offered a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The inmates who've already been recaptured range from 19 to 30 years old.

According to reports, two of the escaped convicts were serving jail sentences for attempted murder.

This comes on the heels of a video, released last week, showing three Orange County prisoners escaping a jail in Santa Ana from January 2016. A prison worker was charged with helping the men escape by smuggling power tools into the facility.
