We're not even two months into the season and one of the biggest managerial jobs in club football has become available, after Bayern Munich dismissed manager Carlo Ancelotti this week.

Carlo Ancelotti defended his team selection after leaving Arjen Robben, Mats Hummels and Franck Ribery out of his starting line-up in a 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

"The performances of our team since the start of the season had not met out expectations".

Bayern, who have won the last five consecutive Bundesliga titles, are now in third place in the Bundesliga, three points off leaders Borussia Dortmund. Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and I gave Carlo an open and serious talk today and informed him of our decision, ' goal.com quoted Rummenigge as saying.

"I thank Carlo for the cooperation and regret the development". Carlo is my friend and he will remain so, but we had to take a professional decision in the interests of FC Bayern.

Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the quarterfinals and while that might have been expected, this season has started poorly.

Willy Sagnol is in the hot seat now as Bayern's interim manager. To present as Bayern Munich and to show we are a team, which performed well in the last years in Europa and in Germany.

Tuchel has been linked with a number of high-profile recent vacancies and with a move to the Premier League but the 44-year-old, who hails from Bavaria, could see managing Bayern as a natural progression as he coached Mainz before moving to Dortmund.

Guardiola won the Bundesliga in each of his three seasons at the Allianz Arena between 2013-14 and 2015-16, along with two DFB-Pokal triumphs, and Ancelotti made it five straight top-flight titles for Bayern last term.

With Sagnol at the helm, Bayern next faces a trip to Pal Dardai's well-organized Hertha Berlin side in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
